Heyo I just saw your comments on my first chapter of my book… I’m obviously an amateur writer (I just started college) and it seems action and dialogue tags, ellipses, and em- dash grammar are my weaknesses… Do you mind explaining them to me?

Spring_Campbell

Sure. If my elucidation is insufficient, I suggest doing your own research, so you can fully comprehend them.

@arka_26 I understand that you may believe Spring isn’t fully grasping the book, but I think it’s important not to jump to conclusions. The fact that she has some questions doesn’t imply that she isn’t comprehending the book or its complexities. In fact, she is engaging with it more thoughtfully than many might—asking insightful questions, critically analyzing the scenes, and attempting to connect the dots. As for the suggestion that this is her “first time reading a novel,” I have to disagree. Spring has read and written plenty of books, just not necessarily in this particular style or format. Her questioning of certain scenes or her struggle with some parts isn’t a sign of inexperience; rather, it reflects her active engagement with the material. It’s important to recognize that literature doesn’t always resonate in the same way for everyone, and not everything will “click” immediately.
