          It's been quite a day, so this week's fun fact is short and sweet.
          
          Continuing observation of Women's History Month, Kim Ng was the MLB's first woman AND East Asian general manager. She managed the Miami Marlins from 2021-2023. Before signing with the Marlins, Kim Ng was the assistant general manager for the New York Yankees from 1998-2001 and the Los Angeles Dodgers from 2022-2011. Currently, she is a senior advisor for Athletes Unlimited Pro Softball.

          The Cuban Giants were the first nationally known black professional baseball team (not to be confused with the first ever). The Cuban Giants were formed in 1885 when three different clubs merged. In 1887, their success led to the development of the “Negro league,” which consisted of six teams: the Baltimore Lord Baltimores, Boston Resolutes, Louisville Fall City, New York Gorhams, Philadelphia Pythians, and Pittsburgh Keystones.
          
          That’s a wrap on Black History Month fun facts. Next week will be the first Women’s History Month fun fact (and I am VERY excited).

Hi! Chapter 7 of How The Chicken Little Nuggets is out a few hours early today! I’ve been scheduling chapters for 3:00 am my time, but I’ve realized that causes little sleep and too much anxiety. Now we’re going to try out a bit more of a reasonable time (for me at least). So Wednesdays at 9:00 pm CST is the new schedule… for now.

          With that out of the way, it’s time for this chapter's fun fact (which is more of a short biography)! Keeping with our celebration of Black History Month, I’d like to highlight Frank Robinson, the first black manager in the MLB in 1975 for the Cleveland Indians (now the Guardians), 28 years after Jackie Robinson first took the field. For those who aren’t familiar with what a manager is, they’re basically the equivalent of a head coach. He went on to manage the San Francisco Giants, Baltimore Orioles, and Montreal Expos/Washington Nationals. 
          
          Frank Robinson also had a decorated career as a player before managing. He made his Major League debut in 1956 on the Cincinnati Redlegs (now the Reds. As if mid-1900’s racism wasn’t already apparent enough). Before retiring as a player, he also played for the Orioles, Los Angeles Dodgers, California Angels (now the Los Angeles Angels), and Indians. His number, 20, is retired on the Reds, Orioles, and Guardians. 
          
          Among many other titles such as two-time World Series Champion, World Series MVP, and fourteen-time All Star, he was the first person to be awarded MVP in both the National League and American League.

          In addition to a new chapter, I forgot last week that I intended to share fun facts with each chapter, so consider this a fun (or not-so-fun) fact for the first three.
          
          As of the publishing of the first chapter, there has never been an openly gay and active Major League Baseball player. A few have come out after retirement, but none have done so while on an active roster. TJ House, a former pitcher for the Toronto Blue Jays in 2017, is the most recent player to come out in 2022.

          Cameron Shaw, a former rising star in baseball, has one goal in life: to coach professional baseball. As the current graduate assistant for the esteemed Saint Helena University baseball team, he has the next twenty years of his life planned to the last detail, and he intends to follow that plan, no matter the cost.
          
          On top of working himself to the bone for a shot at the Majors, Cameron also takes on another great feat: coaching a ragtag team of recreational youth baseball kids. Between both teams, the pieces of the twenty-year puzzle are falling into place, but he never planned for fun-loving Norah Young to be a part of it.
          
          Norah also has one goal: revel in her last few weeks of freedom before graduation, when she will be thrust into the throes of Corporate America. After a drunken and unfortunate night lands her in the strong arms of the oh-so-hot but surly baseball GA, she has even more items on her scant to-do list.
          
          First, survive Senior year. Second, make it to the College Softball World Series. Third, uncover Cameron's past and find out what exactly stole the promising young player's talent and smile.
